I'm pretty sure it wouldn't look like this. It's cute but had been around the block a few times. The top was damaged and the paint was well... Tired.
So I stripped and sanded the top to bare wood. Cleaned the rest of it and took out the center drawer because it was falling apart.
And the weather was holding out which is great because I don't like to work in the cold.
I used Unicorn SPiT for the top in about 5 different colors. It's a really fun, non-toxic wood stain that comes in the colors of the rainbow. The body was painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Scandinavian Pink. We all have "go-to" paint colors... this is not one of them...for me...or for anybody else I've ever met. So now you're thinking this looks like a giant vat of rainbow sherbet. Hang on.
3 coats of poly on the top got that to really pop. The body got a coat of Maison Blanche French Lime Paint in White Pepper. And then it sat like this for 9 weeks. Because it got cold. Because I had to rebuild the top drawer. Because I get distracted. Oh look- a squirrel!
After resolving to get her done- I knuckled down. Top drawer was rebuilt. Changed the knobs (because the ones I originally chose looked inappropriate), painted the back and found an awesome quote which suits this piece perfectly.
On the back it reads "Colours are brighter when the mind is open". I love that!
Here's a good look at the top. Thanks for looking.
