Super Simple Upcycled Tablet Stand

I wanted to make something to prop up my smaller tablet on while I was cooking or baking...but didn't want to start from scratch! So when I spotted this unusual shelf at a secondhand store, I added a little ledge and gave it a bright splash of paint. Ta-da!: a super easy, and wonderfully functional tablet stand for my kitchen.

This shelf...sconce?...had been donated to a charity shop but it was well-made and in great shape so I snapped it up. The only reason I knew it was a shelf/sconce was because there was a sawtooth hanger on the back!

To transform it into a tablet stand would be easy- I just needed to add a ledge at the front! So I picked up some scrap trim from my local Habitat ReStore.

Measured, cut, and sanded the edges- the perfect ledge!

I used wood glue to attach it to my tablet stand and let it cure overnight.

And sometimes...you just need a splash of color, especially on a grey winter day! So I painted it a fun coral pink/orange.

After the paint dried, I had a delightful tablet stand! Ridiculously easy...after seeing that strange shelf through repurposing-colored glasses. ;)
